TMCNet: China Radio International selects access equipment from RAD

[August 12, 2008]

China Radio International selects access equipment from RAD

(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
China Radio International (CRI), a media organisation in China, has
selected access equipment from RAD Data Communications, a developer of
access solutions for data and telecomms applications, to enable it to
transmit video on demand from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

RAD said that CRI, which maintains a video server at the Olympics,
recommended its RIC-155GE Gigabit Ethernet over STM-1 network
termination unit to communications company China Telecom as a gateway
for transmitting its Ethernet-based video feed over existing SDH lines
to various provincial capitals, including Chengdu, Sichuan; Xian,
Shaanxi; and Changsha, Hunan.

The RIC-155GE reportedly uses virtual concatenation technology to map
the video streams into VC-4 containers for transport across long-haul
fibre connections.

The solution provides carriers and service providers with a migration
path for connecting IP devices with Gigabit Ethernet interfaces to
existing SDH or SONET networks at an access rate of 155Mb/s. It is part
of RAD's EtherAccess family of Ethernet access solutions, which enables
Quality of Service over low- and high-speed SDH/SONET and PDH circuits
from fractional and full E1/T1, E3/T3 and STM-1/OC-3 circuits to
Gigabit Ethernet, the company said.

No financial details were disclosed.
