- Alert) among the top tier Ethernet service providers in its year end 2011 U.S. Business Ethernet Services Leaderboard by ranking it fifth in the market in terms of enterprise Ethernet installations.
The biannual Leaderboards from Vertical System provide benchmarks for measuring business Ethernet market presence.
"We are very proud of this recognition of our leadership position among U.S. business Ethernet providers," said Don MacNeil chief marketing officer at XO Communications, in a press release.
XO Communications improved upon its 2009 market position and moved up three spots at year-end 2011. MacNeil attributed this to the increased focus on service innovation, continuous expansion of its Ethernet network and its easy approach.
He added that XO would continue its Ethernet services leadership by delivering the most robust Ethernet network and services platform in the industry.
Company officials noted that XO had one of the largest Ethernet network footprints in the United States and was well positioned to offer a robust portfolio of Ethernet services that enable businesses to converge their LAN and WAN over a single Ethernet network , transport large volumes of sensitive data and efficiently deliver other managed services.
Erin Dunne, director of research services at Vertical Systems Group noted that XO remained a strong player in the growing Ethernet market.
He further added, “It has been a leader in expanding the nationwide availability of Ethernet through a variety of access technologies, like Ethernet over copper. This has opened the benefits of Ethernet to more businesses which has helped XO see the growth that it has each year."
