OpenPeak today announced a production-ready version of its OpenFrame IP media phone platform based on the low-power Intel (

Alert) Atom processor. The new OpenFrame IP media phone platform is designed to provide revenue sources for service providers by converging voice, data, video and mobile into a single touchscreen-based home communications center that can dramatically simplify everyday family and media interactions.
Consumers can now access applications such as their family calendar, e-mail, text messaging, synced address book and directory services with a single device when the OpenFrame IP media phone is connected to the home network via a built-in WiFi (

Alert)/Ethernet link. In addition to this, users can access to news, sports, weather, stock quotes and traffic, as well as the ability to make traditional or VoIP phone calls.
The same device can also send calendar reminders and driving directions to the user's mobile; stream and play Internet content such as music, movie trailers and YouTube (
News -
Alert) videos; and preview images or video from digital cameras or camcorders.
OpenPeak, with Intel Atom processor, reduce the design footprint by 80 percent over previous three-chip solutions, minimized power requirements, and increased the overall performance of their platform.
"The Intel Atom processor gives us a rapid development environment, critical performance headroom for adding or customizing services, an architecture we can easily transfer to other product models and markets such as enterprise, and — most important from the consumer's point of view — the best performance we have seen for a processor in its class," said OpenPeak CTO Paul Krzyzanowski. "It is a core building block of our product family for the foreseeable future."
