Fujitsu Debuts IP-9500 4.0, a new MPEG-4 AVC Encoder for Real Time Broadcast

Fujitsu Computer Products of America has stated that broadcasters will be offered efficient and cost effective real time broadcast of content by their newly released IP-9500 4.0 mpeg-4 AVC encoder. The new product provides them with the flexibility to use either 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 chroma subsampling, whichever that suits their infrastructure for HD transmission. The IP-9500 4.0 maintains non-degraded 4:2:0 chroma resolution to preserve picture quality throughout the entire communications link.

Fujitsu (News - Alert) is a provider of IT-based business solutions and Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. conducts engineering and marketing activities in Sunnyvale, CA (News - Alert) and sales operations throughout the United States.

According to the company, The Fujitsu IP-9500 is an audio/video codec that utilizes advanced MPEG-4 AVC encoding to perform real-time transmission of HDTV at low bit rates over DVB and broadband IP networks. The IP-9500 4.0 applies DVB-S and DVB-S2 modulation methods making it easy for satellite broadcasting.

The company maintains that the product can offer the highest image quality for use in broadcast contribution and distribution networks as it makes use of the latest H.264 High Profile at Level 4 image processing algorithms.

Other features of the new encoder include MPEG-4 AVC encoding for real-time DVB and IP transmission of HD/SD media at lowest possible bit rate for any given video sequence, high performance H.264 compression, and a full-duplex VoIP intercom to provide interactive communications between encoder and decoder locations.

"The Fujitsu technology innovation and ability to bring cutting-edge solutions to market is one of our key competitive advantages, and it is one reason why broadcasting organizations across the world continue to implement the IP-9500," said Vic Herring, senior director, video solutions group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "The IP-9500's ability to transmit 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 signals simultaneously yields measurable benefits to our customers by reducing cost and bolstering efficiency while maintaining superior picture quality and low latencies."

In-Stat's (News - Alert) converging markets and technologies group’s principal analyst has commented that the ability of this product to simultaneously encode and transmit HD signals in both 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 format will be received with great enthusiasm across the industry. Sending the signals simultaneously means broadcasters need not have to transmit the signals twice, once using 4:2:0 and once using 4:2:2 because of difference in the hardware used in the same infrastructure. The Fujitsu IP-9500 4.0 eliminates this costly, inefficient process, and together with the non-degraded 4:2:0 resolution functionality, delivers one of the most advanced, innovative broadcasting solutions available today.
