Praise for RHUB's TurboMeeting Web Conferencing Device

Audio conferencing – a technology that falls into a group of cost-saving IT tools, including SaaS (News - Alert), virtualization, telepresence and VoIP, that are gaining traction in this down economy – is expected to pick up even more business in Europe and Asia next year.

Yet – as officials with Hillsboro, Oregon-based RadiSys Corporation will discuss next month in a free Webinar (register here) – as new competitors enter the market, collaboration service providers must move beyond traditional TDM conference bridge technology. Specifically, RadiSys (News - Alert) says, CSPs should consider next-generation VoIP architectures based on open standards.

Recently, a San Jose, California-based Web conferencing provider introduced a device that many industry insiders say will challenge SaaS conferencing solutions while adding remote access and remote control features.

RHUB Communications Inc.’s so-called “TurboMeeting” appliance (pictured below) is a good way to collaborate through a technology that's become increasingly mainstream, according to Frank Ohlhorst of ChannelInsider.com: Web conferencing.

“The idea behind the TurboMeeting appliance is to eliminate the need for external subscription-based Web communication services and to move all of those capabilities into an on-premise device,” Ohlhorst writes. “Simply put, TurboMeeting is a hardware-based solution that acts like a server for the applications that enable conferencing, remote control and other peer-to-peer or one-to-many connections.”

Here’s how RHUB (News - Alert) diagrams its product:

The device comes in several models, including the entry level TM-200 for $995, which offers two meeting rooms and 10 concurrent users. The TM-200 is designed for the SMB market looking to jump on the Web conferencing segment, Ohlhorst says. RHUB also offers the TM-500, the TM-800 and the TM-1000, which offer more meeting rooms and concurrent user counts.

“The feature set is virtually identical in all the devices, with differences in processing power and user counts being the only real differences,” he said. “The TM-1000 offers 50 meeting rooms and can support 200 concurrent users, making it a good fit for a larger enterprise.”
