Optimum Business Rolls Out Sip Trunking to Boost Small Business Voice Service

Small businesses will soon be getting some enhancements to their voice experience, thanks to Cablevision Systems Corp.’s  availability of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking from Optimum Business.

Under the arrangement, the Cisco (News - Alert) SPA9000 Voice System and Microsoft Response Point are now made compatible with Cablevision's Optimum Voice service. The offering will be available through Optimum (News - Alert) Business third-party resellers, as well as select Cisco and Microsoft resellers.

"Cablevision is committed to bringing leading communications solutions to small and medium business customers throughout the New York Metropolitan Area, and with SIP Trunking small businesses now have access to enterprise-grade voice service," said Joseph Varello, Cablevision's vice president of voice and small and medium business services, in a statement. "With Optimum Voice SIP Trunking, our business customers' IP PBX (News - Alert) is connected directly to our network. Our technical certification with Cisco and Microsoft Response Point and simplified provisioning with these market leaders in unified communications will make sure that small businesses have the best experience available."

Optimum Voice SIP Trunking includes Direct Inward Dial (DID) functionality on a converged voice and data network. Other features include:
  • Immediate 'Alternate Call Routing' - Businesses can specify an alternate phone number if an IP PBX or equipment problem is detected. Calls would then be re-routed automatically.
  • Capacity for 40 DID Telephone Numbers
  • No Additional Installation Required - The SIP Trunking service is activated at the time of installation by the reseller agent. No additional step is required.
The new service is suited for customers who want the advantages of a small business IP PBX, but are looking for lower costs, Cablevision said.

With SIP trunking, a business can exchange voice traffic between an IP PBX and an Internet Telephony (News - Alert)) Service Provider (ITSP) over a dynamic broadband connection rather than physical line or PRI with the traditional phone company. A SIP trunk can significantly reduce costs and streamline operations, TMC reported.

Optimum Business SIP Trunking including 40 DIDs and 12 inbound/outbound call sessions for under $400 per month. Each inbound/outbound call session costs $29.95 per month. Business customers can select four to 12 sessions. Each trunk includes 10 DIDs and additional DIDs are available in blocks of 10 for $9.95 per block, per month.

"Microsoft (News - Alert) Response Point's strategy for small business customers is to bring top grade, affordable technology allowing small business to get the operational efficiencies and feature advantages of larger companies," said John Frederiksen, general manager for Microsoft Response Point, in a statement. "With the combined Optimum Business Voice solution, we are able to do just that."

Mark Monday, vice president and general manager, Small Business Solutions business unit for Cisco, added in a statement, "Optimum Voice SIP Trunking offers businesses a premium voice experience that matches the quality and value our customers have come to expect with Cisco Unified Communications solutions."
