BroadSoft, Genband Offer Legacy Switch Migration Solution
By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor
BroadSoft has announced that the company is integrating its hosted telephony and multimedia applications and servers with GENBAND’s gateway products. According to Broadsoft, this integration will allow telecom service providers to replace Class 4/Class 5 TDM switches with all IP infrastructure.
With the integration, BroadSoft (News - Alert) intends to provide a migration path that generates new revenues upfront as well as reduces churn, encouraging service providers to replace TDM switches. The integrated solution from these two companies will support residential broadband services over multiple interfaces. This will include GR-303, V5.2 and TR-08; business services including both IP-PBXs and traditional PBXs and key systems; hosted PBX (News - Alert) services over any IP connection and IP peering and transport.
After the GENBAND (News - Alert)/BroadSoft solution is deployed for TDM switch replacement, carriers will be enabled to deploy a complete next generation voice over broadband network via one integrated platform. GENBAND BroadSoft integration provides a differentiated option for service providers as their Class 5 switches are costing money for them.
“Previously, switch replacement meant new expenditures without new services," said David Bukovsky, vice president of products, BroadSoft. “Unlike other offerings, the GENBAND/BroadSoft solution allows carriers to deliver carrier grade legacy Class 4, Class 5 and voice over broadband services via a single system. Our combined solution enables carriers to reduce operational costs, but more importantly, various new services for the subscriber base.
The new GENBAND/BroadSoft solution will provide features such as Residential Broadband, Business Connectivity, Hosted PBX, and IP Peering and Transport. These features allow the customers to create a broad suite of enterprise-focused voice solutions and reduce their environmental impact, operating costs, and capital investment required to support existing voice infrastructure.
Recently, Industry research firm IDC has named BroadSoft, the market leader for voice applications servers. According to IDC’s (News - Alert) “Worldwide Voice Application Servers 2006 Market Share Update,” BroadSoft holds a 25 percent share of the worldwide voice application server market, based on estimated 2006 revenues. DC's report is based on written research, analyst interactions, telebriefings, and conferences.
