Panasonic Rolls Out IP-Based Network Cameras
By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor
Panasonic, a provider of corded PBX (News - Alert)/IP PBX telephony systems and cameras, has introduced four IP-based network cameras equipped with features that enhance efficiency and performance while helping business owners to monitor company premises through certain mobile phones and PCs.
These new cameras use Panasonic’s (News - Alert) UniPhier advanced video-processing chipset to offer crisp, natural colors and more efficient video streaming. They also feature H.264 video compression, which enables the reduction of data volume by more than 30 percent compared with MPEG-4 technology. Less bandwidth is used, resulting in quicker transfer of images without compromising picture quality, said the company.
According to Bill Taylor (News - Alert), president of Panasonic Communications Company of North America, these new cameras are ideal for business owners who want peace of mind when they are away from the premises, whether it’s a retail store, restaurant, warehouse, factory or construction site, to name just a few of the possibilities.
He added: “Having cameras that can be monitored from a cell phone or remote PC helps deter theft and vandalism as well as improve employee performance and customer service.”
Other features include a built-in microphone; an SDHC memory-card slot for up to 32 GB of portable storage and compatibility with Panasonic’s i-Pro WJ-ND200 network video recording system.
It also offers SSL support for secure Internet communication with power through the Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for a dedicated electrical line.
What’s more: These new slim models feature improved image quality and zoom performance, recording software that supports up to 16 cameras and “Light Pixel Sensing.” The cameras also have a high-sensitivity mode that produces brighter images in low-light settings.
In addition, these vandalism-resistant cameras offers an advanced multi-sensor that detects motion, sound and shock and triggers an alert, sends an e-mail, or snaps and saves an image to the built-in memory or an optional up to 32GB SD card. Users can even pan and tilt the camera angles remotely, providing the ultimate Zero Distance Management tool.
Company plans to bring out these models to market starting in October 2009 through purchase from Panasonic authorized dealers.
