Mindspeed Helps Ooma Telo Deliver Free Quality Phone Service

Mindspeed Technologies (News - Alert) announced today that the company’s Comcerto 100 customer premise equipment or “CPE” processor is “the core enabling technology” powering Ooma Telo, a recently introduced VoIP router from California-based Ooma.

Officials with Mindspeed said their CPE offering makes it possible for Ooma Telo phones to support VoIP narrowband codecs while also offering a “seamless transitional roadmap to emerging wideband codecs” – which will offer even greater voice quality.

According to Toby Farrand, vice president, hardware engineering and operations at Ooma, Mindspeed has made it possible for the company to offer next-gen home phone service that consumers are looking for.

“The Comcerto 100 is a critical technology element for enabling the reliable voice quality and performance our customers require of all of our Ooma systems. As we continue to deploy new, innovative services and technologies to our growing customer base via the Ooma Telo, we are confident that the Comcerto 100 will provide the maximum processing power needed to meet the demands of today’s broadband homes,” Farrand said.

Ooma Telo is designed to help free consumers from monthly fees and legacy phone carrier contracts by providing free, clear and reliable local and long distance U.S. calling using VoIP technology.  In addition, users receive caller ID, call waiting and 911, for free.

Ooma Telo’s DECT (News - Alert) 6.0 technology also makes communications in the home clearer and almost immune to interference from wireless networks that could degrade call quality levels.

To make this all possible, Marco Bello, director of marketing and product management for Mindspeed said, “Mindspeed’s Comcerto 100 low-power processor has provided the technological underpinnings for this accomplishment, delivering carrier-grade voice quality, a superior Voice over IP feature set, advanced echo-cancellation techniques particularly valuable with digital enhanced cordless telecommunications (DECT) cordless phones and guaranteed voice quality of service in multi-play applications.”
